Service Description

This 4 week beginner pottery course covers the basics of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing twice per week. You WILL learn how to throw on the wheel and set up your own home studio in these 4 weeks! In addition to scheduled lessons, you can come in for one optional practice or makeup session each week during our membership studio time (Wednesday-Sunday 1-3 PM). KEEP everything you can fit on an 11" circular bat to be fired at the end of class. Everything is included! Materials, firings, open studio time, make-up sessions. Missing a day of class? No problem! Schedule a make-up session with us during the week and we will give you a catch-up lesson. Please try to make the scheduled lessons for the best class experience. Our studio is located on the Homes Campus, which offers excellent food & drinks. Feel free to step outside for a break to enjoy the sunshine and bring your drinks back inside the studio. The course schedule is: Class 1 - Clay preparation, posture, studio cleanliness, centering & coning clay. Goal: Have fun! Class 2 - Pulling walls, wheel practice. Goal: Make a bowl. Class 3 - Pulling small forms, cups & bowls. Goal: 6" cylinder. Class 4 - Pulling medium forms. Goal: Make a 12" cylinder. Class 5 - Trimming techniques, centering pieces for trimming Goal: Trim the foot and walls of your pieces. Class 6 - Surface design, attachments (spouts, handles). Goal: Add an attachment to a piece. Class 7 - Glazing bisquewear, glaze layering demos. Goal: Glaze your items! In the final week, you will submit the pieces that you want the studio to fire. These pieces will be dip glazed, and you can choose the colors for each piece. If you want to fire extra pieces that do not fit on your bat, it will be $15 per piece to have them glazed and fired by the studio. All finished creations will be ready for you to collect approximately 3-4 weeks after the class concludes!
